Review : REVLON Top Coat & Base Coat Nail Polishes

Hi bubblies!
How's everything?
Hope you stay magically happy! :D

This time, I'm going to review nail polishes from REVLON.
I know it's not a popular item that REVLON has carried, which is their top coat & base coat nail polishes. but I think it's worth to mention. As I've tried. and in case, some of you curious for purchasing these. :D

This is a review for :

REVLON Super Top Speed Top Coat
( Top Coat Series )
&
REVLON Professional GROW 10
( Base Coat Series )

******************************************************************************

REVLON Super Top Speed Top Coat

******************************************************************************

60 second Top Coat
Netto 5 fl oz / 14.7 ml

What it says : Speed Dries Nail Enamel Surface. Builds shine, nail enamel, lasts twice as long.
To use : Apply over nail enamel. Reapply every other day for best results

Ingredients : Ethyl Acetate, Butyl Acetate, Glyceryl Tribenzoate, Nitrocellulose, Isopropanol, Acrylates Copolymer, Triacetin, N Butyl Alcohol, Etocrylene, Dimethicone.

My review..
I'm gonna tell you my honest opinion.. hem. This is maybe one product that I'm gonna put in my regret to purchase list. -_-" haha.. Most importantly because, when it says it's gonna dry fast ( it even stated 60 second top speed! ), it doesn't do what it promised! What a shame :(  In fact, it takes like fooorever to dry on my nails.

The reason why I purchase this in the first place because I desperately need a new one to do my nails. Knowing this is a reachable item to purchase, that's why I pick this one up without thinking much.

Basically, it's almost like a cheap clear nail polish that has a very liquidy consistency.
Okay, maybe this thing will make your colored nail polish stay longer, but.. why bother buying this then? While you can get the same effect like a cheap clear nail polish does. blah.

The bristle is long and flimsy either. Basically, it's a standard quality. :|

I guess for this being IDR. 35000 rupiahs ( around $3.50 US Dollars ) that I bought on Revlon counter at Watsons Mal Kelapa Gading, it even suppossed to be not worth that much.

Overall.. I do NOT recommend this item :)

******************************************************************************

REVLON Professional GROW 10

******************************************************************************

Natural Protein Strengthener
For Stronger, Longer Nails
Netto 5 fl oz / 14.7 ml

What it says : Intensive Plan for short, weak nails. Reapply daily to add strength.
Maintenance Plan for strong nails. Reapply every other day for longer wear and added gloss.

To Use : Every Manicure, Use as base coat and top coat.
Ingredients : Ethyl Acetate, Butyl Acetate, Glyceryl Tribenzoate, Nitrocellulose, Acrylates Copolymer, Triacetin, Isopropyl Alcohol, Etocrylene, AMP Isostearoyl Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein, Acetyl Tributyl Citrate, Dimethicone, SD Alcohol 40, Water, Ferric Ammonium Ferrocyanide.

My review..
I think this is just an okay product for me. It does strengthen my nail and protect them before I put on any colored nail polish. I can feel that my nails are getting stronger rather than I didn't put anything on a period of time. And this base coat also make some of my *ehem* fake and cheap nail polishes glides on much smoother and spread nicer.

Here is my experiment while I'm wearing a dark color nail polish that usually stains on the nails.

You can see the huge difference, right? :D

Price tag : IDR. 35000 rupiahs ( around $3.50 US Dollars ) that I bought on Revlon counter at Watsons Mal Kelapa Gading.

Overall.. this is just a decent, standard quality product to me :)

My Thoughts
For the base coat & top coat, the consistency is about the same >> very runny & liquidy. But because they are liquidy, you get a thin layer in every application ( unless you build them up ). It was good I guess, because it supposed to work only as another layer to the main nail polish.

They also have a very similar packaging thick glass plastic bottle and applicator.

They have a quite strong acetone smell, by the way. ugh. I know >,<"

As I said earlier, I'm not happy at all with the super top speed top coat from Revlon. You can skip and look for another brand if you ever consider to purchase a top coat. And about the base coat, it's just an okay product for me and I believe there are tons of other brands that have a better quality in this range of price.

That's it my review.

Let me know what you think!

Good day all!

Quick Tip & Tricks : For Your Nail!

Hi lovelies!
How's everything going?
Hope you're doing well! :)
❤(◕‿◕)❤

So, this maybe a quick little trick that I learn by trial and error when I'm doing my nail. I didn't come up with all of this tricks at first, it's by listening or observing here and there from long time ago by some other people.
I'm totally not an expert in nail section, but I do love painting my nails with colors!

I just hope this information could be useful for some of you who discover this tricks by this post. And if you know some other tricks that could be useful, please share! and I'd love to hear from you :D

Let's start!

 ***

Preparation
Rubbing Alcohol.
So, if you start doing your nail with a clean, nail-polish-free finger, it's better to swipe your nail with some rubbing alcohol first. Not just it will kill the unseen bacteria in your hands but with a swipe of rubbing alcohol make your next nail polish dry faster.

I'm just using Alcohol 70% IKA

Base Coat.
Base coat is like putting a safety or barrier to your nails from nail polish ( like a primer or moisturizer before foundation ). Not only it preventing your nails into staining from nail polish, but it will also make your nail polish glides smoothly and evenly. I think base coat is important :)

I'm just using a Nail Strengthener as my base coat from The Face Shop
I've gone all of 2 bottles of that and need getting a new one >,<"

How to remove nail polish without nail polish remover
The answer is : by other nail polish. You know, in every nail polish is containing ethyl acetate or some other alcohol which is also an ingredients in every -acetone free- nail polish remover << well, please correct me if I'm wrong :)
But this method is something that I do only at emergency time, In case I forgot to bring or ran out of a nail polish remover that day.

How it works is simple :
  1. There I made a stain of nail polish that ready to be removed.
  2. Just use any kind of nail polish ( better the one that you barely use ), then put it generously on top of the nail polish stain.
  3. Wait a few second so it dissolve into the nail polish stain.
  4. You can use tissue paper or cotton pads to wipe it off.
  5. Little "wiggle" would help :P
  6. There you go! *clink*
NOTE : you may repeat the step several times, it depends on the thickness of the nail polish layer.

How to make your nail polish dry faster
For this, I can tell you with several tricks.
  • The easiest way is a salon trick, which they usually use a blow dry on a cool air in each between coats. If you use hot air, it will turn the other way, as it would melt the liquidy consistency of nail polish. Also, hot air will make it bubble up and chip off easier.
 courtesy by google
  • Other method is by dipping your nails in a bowl of a cold water. The cold water freeze-dries polish, sealing and hardening it quickly. After you apply the nail polish, wait or let it air dry for around 2 minutes, then submerge in ice-cold water for three minutes, which is enough time for the polish to harden completely.
picture taken --> here!
  • You can use a speed dry top coat nail polish.
I'm just using Revlon Super Top Speed.
  • Or you can spray them. Lately, some geniuses invented a spray that will immediately make your nail polish dry. ( And I believe it's a WOMAN! lol )
Recommended items --> Avon Nail Experts Liquid Freeze Quick Dry Spray

Baby Oil Trick
This trick I remember clearly when I'm doing manicure and pedicure at the salon. The girl who's doing my nail kind enough to told me this trick. While I'm waiting my nail to dry, she put baby oil to my nails. I was asking her why, she said that it would prevent the "almost drying nail" from tracing by other objects. As if your nail accidentally touch a sharp edges, it will slide on immediately and not be traced unto the nail. Cool trick, huh? :P

I'm just using Cussons Baby Oil ^.^

Chip-Free Nail
The reason why nail polish could be chip easily is because the quality of the nail polish or simply, in how you "seal" them with top coat. Usually, people will only layer it on top of nail polish ( obviously, it should be that way! *duh. ) But, it will be more effective if the top coat also seal the outside edges of your nails. With this trick, you would find the nail polish is more secure of getting chip :)

layer your top coat as usual, then continue to seal the edges before it dry.
It will close out the edges that tend to get chip easily.

PS: that's my dad's thigh! LOLOL.

Other Tips For Your Nail Polish
  • You know where the best place to store your nail polishes? In refrigerator :D or at least in a cool place :P
  • Old nail polish is become gooey and thick? Never use a makeup remover to dissolving it. Use a nail polish thinner!
  • Never use your top coat as your base coat. Better not using a base & top coat ( 2in1 product ) as it should works differently.
  • Toss bottles when the polish begins to change color or separate. At that point, the lacquer has probably thickened and become unusable.
  • Protecting your nails from sun radiance is also needed. You know, like protecting your other body parts! :D
I'm just using UV Top Coat that I bought at free market in Singapore.
Ingredients : Buty Acetate, Ethyl Acelate, Isopropyl Alcohol, Tocopheryl Acelate, Collodion, Mica, Resin, Cl15850, Cl15880:1, Cl77499, Cl77510, Cl77891.

But I believe top coat is also works well in protecting your nails!

Hits & Misses : Charm Cosmetics

Hi lovelies!
How's your day?
Hope it's fabulous! :D

Do you know Charm Cosmetics?
Yeah, I guess it's an underrated makeup brand because it is so cheap, well.. affordable, I mean :P They have a fairly good price for all of their items. Straightly IDR 19000 rupiahs ( around $ 1.90 US Dollars ) for each of all of them. Wow! I think it's such a bargain price, hence it was claim made in Italy.

So, whenever I got my time to walk around at STAR Department Store Mal Kelapa Gading, I always try to come to their counter and pick one thing or two just for fun.. Simply, because they were so cheap! :D

And realizing I've been collecting their stuff, I found some good and bad things worth to mention with this brand.

The collected items that I've got :
 1. Eyeshadows
2. Nail Polishes
3. Lipsticks
4. Lipglosses

***

1. Eyeshadows
The truth to be told are.. I've got my eye on this brand because they have this mini duo eyeshadow colors! haha.. You know how much I love colors :P I think this is such a worth to have in makeup purse because it's simple pairing color and very practical.

The pairing colors that I got :
 801 Ocean Deep & 831 Sunset

Swatches :
no primer. no base. direct sun lighting

801 Ocean Deep >> you'll get both matte color, light pale blue and deeper blue. I find the texture is really nice, pigmented, easy to blend and I have experience no excessive fall out so far. Best applied with the sponge tip applicator though, it will glide on smoothly.

831 Sunset >> you'll get dark brown matte color and satin finish orangey undertone gold. For the dark matte color, too bad the color not so pigmented like the previous duo. I find the texture is not so buttery either, it slightly drier or hardened ( maybe I just get a bad one? idk. ) For the gold color, it has a settle glow but not so loud shimmery color. I find the texture is so chalky. You'll get fall out, if you don't put sticky base or primer underneath it. Best applied with the sponge tip applicator that was given.

* [ Hit / Miss ] : So glad I'd say it's a hit. I do like it. Sometimes if I just want a hint of color in my eyes, I just slap the darker color on the crease and lighter color on the lid. It just need no brain to use it :P My favorite is the duo blue color. And not so many times I see pale matte blue color like that. The color is true also, What you see in the pan is what you get on the lid :D
And yea, maybe a little cons for this : there's no ingredients listed in the packaging, which maybe could bother for some of you. >,<"

2. Nail Polishes
For the color selection, I just chose what goes on my mood that day. :D

For the packaging, it's just a normal average nail polish bottle. With a thick glass and a quite heavy weight, I think it's a plus. It is more save and you'll know that the nail polish itself won't dry so fast.

Swatches :
1 - 2 - 3

Color 1 is a dark plumish purple. Actually, I've been impressed when I swatch it. 1 coat is enough to get to the opaque color. 2 coats is what I usually do, because it darken and intensify the color a bit.

Color 2 is dark eggplant purple color with silver shimmer in it. For this, to get to a heavy opaque color like in a bottle, I need 3 coats.

For the most impressive swatch among them all, the brightest one wins the game, instead! Woah, the color is opaque and bright enough as what you see through the bottle in just 1 coat!

For staying power, it's pretty awesome if you do at least 2 coats for each of the color ( because it's pretty thick liquid ). Doesn't chip on my nail for a good 5-6 days without a top coat! :D

* [ Hit / Miss ] : I'd say it's a hit. For such amount of product we get, staying power, pigmentation.. what can you ask for? And yea, maybe the cons is the smell. It has a strong smell of cheap nail polish remover. But it will go away soon, especially after washing hand with good smell of hand wash :D

3. Lipsticks
123 Country Rose - 106 Very Pink

The colors I got are 123 Country Rose & 106 Very Pink

Swatches :

Lip Swatches :

 Bare Lips

123 Country Rose

 106 Very Pink

The color as you can see is really beautiful. While the name is Country Rose, all I see is a vibrant fuschia color on the lips ( heavily swatch ) and Very Pink is a nice coral color.
I don't know why they come up with those name. ??!!

For the texture, it glides on nicely on the lips. But, tend to drying my lips and accentuates the lines on the lips to give it a cracked look.
And really what bother me is the smell. Yep, it does have a strong smell! >,<"  The smell is like an old lipstick ( I mean, lipstick in the earlier times. Little bit reminds me long time ago when i was a kid and smelling my mom's lipstick -_-" ) Moreover, your lips is right above your nose! Eugh, and If I smell it too long, I'll get a headache.

* [ Hit / Miss ] : For this lip product, sorry I had to say it's a miss. Despite the gorgeous colors it look on the tube and on my lips, the formula is drying on my lips and have a strong unpleasant smell. It taste not good as well! Ahh.. Well, I guess it's a type of beauty which you can only see, but not to put on! LOL.

4. Lipglosses
303 Sweet - 304 Lollipop

The colors I got are 303 Sweet & 304 Lollipop

 Swatches :

Lip Swatches :

 Bare Lips

 303 Sweet

 304 Lollipop

This is again, such a beautiful color. my favorite definitely Lollipop! It's perfect sit on top of Country Rose when I bought this for sure. Sweet is perfect for everyday color although it has a silver shimmer speck in it. They have a glass effect finish to the lips.

The texture is on the sticky side. I think It's forgivable, because of that, it could last long on my lips.
And the downside again is the smell. >,<"

* [ Hit / Miss ] : For that, I think this time I'd give this a miss. For I've been searching a lipgloss color like Lollipop from now on, sometimes in my good mood, I'd still put it on :D

***

Overall, for 4 types of product I've tried from them, this time is the draw sees! 2-2!
Of course in every purchases you should choose wisely all things you'll gonna buy or use. So that, you'll not end up wasting money. But make it worth the money :)
I hope this post helpful! :D

So, have you tried this brand?
If so, what is your favorite item from them?
Let me know what you think!
Good day all!
