My favourite Department Store Japanese Brush

Today, I'm sooo in the mood to talk about brushes!

And I think I need to share, as an information about affordable brushes that I used and work wonders to me.
These are all the brushes that I use when I start to learn applying makeup.
They were so affordable and easily to get.

It happen when I need a brush that I could use just for applying basic makeup. At that time what I need is simply the cheapest that I could get and be easily found at my nearest mal from my house ( Mal Kelapa Gading ). But, somehow.. I really do think that it is a good brush! :D

Even though I already have sigma, but still I found myself tend to reach all of these brushes to get the look that I want.

And here it is :

All of this brushes I purchased from SOGO Department Store.
For coincidence, they were all Japanese Brand :D

They were all :
  • Spoolie Brush by Cosmeup
  • Angled Eyeliner Brush by Masami Shouko
  • Small Dome Brush ( for eye ) by Masami Shouko
  • Large Angled Contour Brush ( for eye ) by Masami Shouko
  • Concealer Brush by Masami Shouko
  • HD Foundation Brush by Masami Shouko
  • Multi Foundation Brush by (unknown, all the instruction are written in Japanese >,<")

Another thing that I'm sooo glad that I purchased all of these brushes are none of them have the same shape that what I get in SIgma 12 Essential Kit. So, they all just complete each other whenever I need a specific type of brush :D
you can see my post about Sigma Kit here --> click me!

So, let's get up and personal with the brushes, shall we?
.
.
.
.

Spoolie Brush by Cosmeup
Price Tag : IDR. 49500 rupiahs ( around $4.95 US Dollar )

What can I say? This is my Holy Grail Spoolie. hahaha.. What I do with this brush is to separate any clumps on my eyelash after applying mascara or to shape my eyebrow. ( Tips : spray the brush with hairspray before you shape the eyebrow, so that you get a perfect eyebrow shape all day! yay! )

As you can see.. the brush is much shorter than the usual ( the length of the bristle ) and it's flat ( with no bump in the middle or shape like a tree ) and that's why I like it better! :D The brush is so sturdy and strong but yet gentle to my eyebrow.

Angled Eyeliner Brush by Masami Shouko
Price Tag : IDR. 25900 rupiahs ( around $2.59 US Dollar )

I've been wanting to have an angled brush like this. It said that it's easier to applying gel eyeliner with this, in a way that your hand won't blocking your view when doing eyeliner. I'm new with gel eyeliner, so this is a good tool for me.

This brush is so thin, ike a half size of the Sigma E05 eyeliner brush. As you see from the picture it's about the same size, because the angled brush is a flat shape while Sigma E05 is a round shape. This angled brush is perfect to make a precise thin line but sometimes it's bristles tickle me! Yes, tickle as in tingle in my eye. Well, that's just me. LOL! It's made with synthetic bristle.

Small Dome Brush ( for eye ) by Masami Shouko
Price Tag : IDR. 25900 rupiahs ( around $2.59 US Dollar )

This brush has a perfect size to cut a crease on my eye. Compare to Sigma E30 pencil brush, it's shorter and rounder at the tip. While with Sigma E40 tapered blending brush, you can see a hugh different with the picture on the left side. Made with natural bristle.

Sigma E40 - Sigma E30 - SDM Masami Shouko

Oh ya, one thing that I forgot to mention that all of these Masami Shouko brushes are come from a smaller size ( like a travel size ), but I do saw the longer one that they sell at the same place with maybe 3-5cm difference. Still not as long as the regular brushes. You can see the difference side by side with Sigma brushes on the left side.

Large Angled Contour Brush ( for eye ) by Masami Shouko
Price Tag : IDR. 28900 rupiahs ( around $2.89 US Dollar )

As you can see, it's so much bigger than Masami Shouko Small Dome Brush, however it's bristles is shorter and rounder than Sigma E40 tapered blending brush. I use this brush to soften any harsh line or to spread eyeshadow color evenly. It's just bulkier and I use it switch to other brush or depends on what look that I want to achieve that day. And unique thing, it's angled. just a different feel in applying any kind with swiping motion. ( if you know what I mean. :D ). Made with natural bristle.

Concealer Brush by Masami Shouko
Price Tag : IDR. 28900 rupiahs ( around $2.89 US Dollar )

Sigma E60 - CB Masami Shouko - Sigma F70

Again, the bristle is very soft, not like other cheap brand that feel scratchy on your face. From the picture above I compare it with Sigma E60 large shader and Sigma F70 concealer brush. It's size is in between those two. However, I feel Masami Shouko is a bit denser, which is good for applying product in a lot thicker consistency.

HD Foundation Brush (Flat Top Synthetic) by Masami Shouko
Price Tag : IDR. 88900rupiahs ( around $8.89 US Dollar )

This I must say is just as soft as Sigma Sigmax synthetic brush and it's so dense. However, it's too small ( around 2cm diameter ) but it's good though to reach small area like underneath your eye, the corner of your nose, etc. Just need extra time and patience :) Another thing that kinda bothers me is the weight. The handle is made with aluminum but filled with like.. umm.. iron. ugh! I try to bare it, coz it works wonder to me! Since I had this, I never go back applying my BB cream with fingers. This brush somehow can push all the product and filled my pores, giving a flawless finish. I do have some shedding issue at first ( deep clean method ), but it's just a little and only at that time. After that, it hold pretty good. I'm impressed! Made with synthetic bristle.

Compare to Sigma F50 Duo Fibre

Multi Foundation Brush by Unknown
Price Tag : IDR. 175000rupiahs ( around $17.50 US Dollar )

I know it still a little high price to pay, but I think it's worth it. To be honest, until now, I still don't know what kind of bristle it's made out with. The character is like someone's hair! uughh. But a good healthy hair type! without split end, rough, or easily broken type of thing. ( hmmph I feel guilty to explain it >,<! it could be really is someone's hair. oh no! ) But it could be synthetic, as it's shiny when I highlight it under the artificial lamp. It cut so precise to give the flat effect and feel soft on my skin. The grip is just perfect for me. I have no shedding problem at all from the first time I bought it. I use this brush to cut the hollow on my cheeks with bronzer, it's just a perfect shape. But since it too dense, after made the cut, I blend the bronzer with other brush. Giving a perfect cut but not too harsh. But I think since it's called 'Multi Foundation Brush', it would be a perfect brush for applying mineral foundation. Still, I don't think it would good for liquid foundation since I'm not sure what the bristle is made of.

Compare to Sigma F50 Duo Fibre

The comparison size from all of the brushes Sigma F25 tapered face :

Review & Swatches : Etude House Bling Bling Eye Stick

Hi girls!
I've got another review for you :)

It's from Etude House for their
'Bling Bling Eye Stick'

I got it for IDR. 108000rupiahs ( around $10.80 US Dollar ) each from Etude House Counter in Mal Kelapa Gading.
But, I got it because their having a SALE for buy 2 get 1 free just for this items.

* I'm such a cheap bastard *

Yes, most of the reason why I pick these up because of the SALE. Because I really do have this love and hate relationship with Etude House. Some of their product is just mainly selling the cute packaging and so-so quality of the product ( with high price in their original counter ), BUT don't get me wrong.. I love Etude and I find some of their product is good and become my favorite piece of cosmetic that I carry around in my bag.

K. Enough rambling. Let's get back to the topic, shall we? :)

The color that I pick up is :
  • #02 Butterfly Star ( shimmery pale yellow )
  • #04 Purple Aurora ( shimmery purple )
  • #05 Silver Milky Way ( shimmery grey)

And I believe they have 4 shades that available in the counter. The other color that I don't choose is shimmery white, unless they give me buy 2 get 2 at that time. hahaha

Basically, this Bling Bling Eye Stick is an eyeshadow stick, but the lady in the counter said it could be as a base. The packaging is cute, it is a simple design and practical to be carried around.
You need to turn it to get into the product, like a concealer stick. And one thing that I like about the packaging is you can see the actual color at the bottom, so you don't need to open the cap just to make sure that's the color you're going for. ( see the picture below )

that simple thing that makes your life easier, right? :D

The product itself really is a stick, not creamy nor sticky, like eye base supposed to be ( I must say NYX jumbo eye pencil as a comparison ), but it glide on easily and the color pay off is good. * Bling Bling like a kaching kaching :D *

And another thing, you can't get much of the product in terms of stick packaging. But I think it will last you a quite long time since you don't "bling" yourself everyday every hour on normally day, right? hehehe
see? that's how much you get the product. ( around 3.5cm long )
* pardon for my chipt nails -___-'' *

And see the colour pay off with the picture below :
(direct sunlight)

( indoor with artificial light )

( direct sunlight )

I would gladly say that I got a good color pay off as an eyeshadow, in case it doesn't work as an eye base. For that, I need to test it out!

For a good shimmery eye base, it should make the color of an eyeshadow more vibrant and off course make the shimmer eyeshadow more pop out. Good shimmer eye base even make the matte eyeshadow become shimmer.

In this little test, I try in 3 different eyeshadow colour : from my 'Oh So Special' Sleek Palette that I already swatched in my previous post --> click me to see! :)
or recently reviewed in my other post --> Review & Swatches : Sleek Oh So Special Palette
  • organza ( shimmery brownish champagne colour )
  • noir ( matte jet black )
  • pamper ( matte peachy nude coral )

 ( at direct sunlight )

( indoor artificial light )

As you can see from the first row, it IS really makes the shimmery eyeshadow more vibrant. As well as the second row, the matte black eyeshadow got a shimmer undertone to it. BUT, look at the third row, this time I really dab my eyeshadow and pack a lot of color to it, the shimmer is just got covered. :(
Well I guess.. it really can do it's job as an eye base, as long as you know how to work it out.

My Thoughts
For the price I pay, I'm quite pleased with the product. Nobody hate SALE when it comes around, right? :D And.. I don't think I would suggest you to buy this product at a normal price. It's a good product, but I must say it will be overprice for the amount of money that you spend for an eyeshadow. :) But heck yea when it's on SALE! hahaha.

Note : And yes, they tend to crease when you wear it alone, especially without any good eyeshadow primer underneath or if you have an oily eyelid.

My thought : Bourjuis Healthy Mix Correcting Concealer

Probably you guys know this concealer?
The Pixiwoo Sister using this for several times in their makeup tutorial :D

Actually, I already have this concealer for quite some time. Maybe 2 months ago? Err.. can't remember exactly the times. Sorry :(
And I also forgot the price.. Maybe around IDR. 110000-130000rupiahs ( or $11-13 US Dollar ) if I'm not mistaken. But, I do remember where I bought it. In Watsons Mal Kelapa Gading. :D

Ya, about this concealer.. hmm
I really don't know what to say..

So, instead a review I will name this post as my thought.. pretty fair, right? hahaha

*forgive me*

The packaging
It's from a squeeze tube which could contain 10ml of product, with an outcome like so :

It said in the back of the package :
Formula hydratante. ( Moisturising formula )
Non grass. ( Oil free )
Tolerance testee dermatologiquement. ( Dermatologically tested )

This concealer only got 3 shades, which is 51, 52, and 53. ( shades that available in Watsons where I found it ) and I'm in shades 51 according to the lady in the counter.

At that time, I am looking for a concealer. And it's been a debate from me to choose between PhotoReady stick concealer that Mrs. EmilyNoel83 ( Beauty blogger, Youtube Beauty Guru, see her review : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OS6zqKMgdHc) had been raving about or.. Bourjuis. The price is fantastic too! About the half price of Bourjuis.

When I test both product at that time at the back of my hand, honestly, hands down to Bourjuis that give a smoother and better coverage! Yeap, since it is a form of thick liquid, It is a bit easier for me to blend than a mussy solid stick. ( pardon for my lame imagination :P )
Also, it does smell sooooo good :D

I must say, this concealer is light to medium coverage.
Here, you can see how much it could cover my old burning scar at the wrist of my hand.
See? it won't make my spot entirely disappear, but blur it out and even up to my skintone little much.

Despite it good performance, I don't know why when it applied to my under eye area, it became so cakey and ashy. Almost like a fake white to my face. I don't know if it is because of the wrong shade that I chose, or in the way that I'm applying it. I use hand to warm it up a bit, because it tend to dry so fast and become powdery when it dry.
I also try to applying it with my F70 Concealer Sigma Brush, but it got worst. even hard to blend.
Curious, I watched again Pixiwoo Sister when they use this product and steal their technique. Oh okay, they even buff it in with a synthetic blending brush. I practised the same. Oh well.. it gets better and quite blend to the way I want it, BUT it still look cakey and ashy to me, like a bunch of powder underneath my eye.

I'm still curious about this product, though. Maybe it's because my poor technique and my beginner knowledge about concealer? Since it is my first concealer that I have in my life, and I don't have anything to compare with. haha..

But, slightly goes through my mind that it is because of the colour selection.
This product got a cool pinky undertone while I'm a warm yellow undertone. It will be like a sugar frosting in a chocolate cake. Over contrast. and trust me nothing good when it happen to a face. haha

Overall, yes I am a rookie when it come to applying makeup. Maybe I just need to explore another product and increasing my skill. hehe..

Haul + Review & Swatches : Too Faced Naked Eye Eyeshadow Palette

I. LOVE. NAKED.
My Goodness!

As far as I'm loving NYX Nude on Nude Palette which I made a review about it --> click me! , this time I give it a try to Too Faced Naked Eye Palette.
(I made a purchase from Indonesian local website called IndoMakeup )

I got it for IDR. 398000 rupiahs ( around $39.80 US Dollar ) because they having a 11% DISCOUNT from the first price IDR. 445000 rupiahs ( around $44.50 US Dollar )
HA! another main reason why I bought it. hihi :P
( the link : http://indomakeup.com/too-faced/too-faced-naked-eye-soft-and-sexy-eye-shadow-collection.html )

I've been wanting this palette because it consist of neutral cool undertone eyeshadow colors. To me, it's quite unique! I love experimenting with colors and new look lately, and to have something different in my collection is another main reason I'm eager to buy this oh-so-expensive palette :P
And as far as what I saw.. gotta love the cute packaging! That's why I'm so excited :D
( I'm such a sucker for a cute packaging! HELP! :P )

As you can see, they have a nice classic Victorian modern theme into the design, and sort of pastel - pinkish creme - soft color as the main color of the package, very pretty! There's a small drawer also to keep the eyeshadow brush. Well thought!

Include the set, they also gave instruction card to guide us in using the color for which I thought it's very cool :D

Day look - Classic Look - Fashion Look

Another point that I like : it's the unusual creative name that they gave to each of the eyeshadow! :D

In The Buff - Pillow Talk - Like A Virgin
Birthday Suit - Satin Sheets - Unmentionables
Pink Cheeks - Lap Dance - Stiletto

And just for a little bit of comparison with NYX Nude on Nude Palette which has the opposite undertone than this Too Faced Palette, we all shall see from the.. SWATCHES! :D
( I don't know why I always excited for swatches *lol :P )

This is the picture side by side with NYX Nude on Nude Palette :
hmm judging from this sight.. They really do have slightly same color on the pan >,<"

after all, let me swatch it for you!
. no primer . no base . indoor artificial light .

Ouch. The swatches pay off is quite sheer, to get to the swatches above I need to swipe it 2-3 times :(

BUT!
Should I be sad?

Funny.. I don't :)
And let me tell you why..

  • After swatch it, I realize that Too Faced Palette got this unique shimmering or satin finish to each of the individual color. The shimmering give the perfect glow or highlighting to be worn as neutral or in this case, naked eye.
  • The color selection is quite unique and can't easily be bought in any drugstore.
  • Yes, it's not as pigmented as I thought, but definitely buildable. Imagine if you put a primer and perfect base to it. OMG. It will be gorgeous.
  • And lastly, even though Too Faced Palette quite the same in the pan to NYX Nude on Nude Palette, my goodness.. they totally on a different alley! ( in term of color also finishes ). Impressed.

As you can see, in the pan they are almost the same. but when I swatch it, NYX give a sort of greyish rose pink with a matte finish, while Too Faced "pink cheeks" give a frosty very pale pink with a hint of teeny tiny sparkle and shimmer in it. Totally different. :D

.close up pictures to see details on texture and finishes.

another swatch without swiping or smudging it :)

Overall, I'm quite pleased with this palette.
Could be more stunning if the color pay off exactly like what I thought, right?
hehe.. that's just my personal opinion.

Do you guys have this palette?
How you like it?
Let me know what you think!
Good day all!
